Using Hormonal Replacement Therapy

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

The human body is similar to a machine, it has been built in such a way that every part has its own functions and they function simultaneously in order to act properly. Their function is good due to few hormones present in the body, which are secreted by the endocrine gland. As we grow old some hormones stop functioning properly and become insufficient. This creates imbalance in our body and affects the function of the body. It is a common and major problem that human faces when they reach middle age. Deficiencies of hormones are the main cause of this problem.

Scientists, after so many studies had found a solution for the imbalance of hormones, which is called as “Hormone Replacement Therapy”. A similar treatment, called as “Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy”, the hormones used are identical in chemical structure found in the human body. The problems that men and women face with hormonal imbalance are fatigue, mental depression, increased wrinkles, and low libido. Hormone Replacement Therapy can solve all these problems. We will discuss about the relief for depression caused by imbalance of hormones.

Imbalance of hormones is the main reason for depression. A chemical name Serotonin is responsible for the mood of a person. If its level drops, the person becomes sad. And when it rises, the person feels happy. This change in its level is caused by estrogen hormones. Whenever the production of estrogen hormone by the body is less, the production of serotonin is also reduced. The reason behind depression is the imbalance of hormones. To manage depression one should manage hormonal imbalance. To get out of depression, people need Hormone Replacement Therapy.

Hormone replacement therapy is a treatment mode newly introduced in which synthetic hormones are used by medical professionals. These hormones are made in laboratories instead in the body. These hormones work like a natural hormone in the body. Synthetic estrogen is used instead of natural estrogen to treat depression. It will act like a natural estrogen. The main purpose of Hormone Replacement Therapy is to increase the estrogen hormones so that there would be increase in serotonin. If this can be achieved, there will be no depression problem. If level of estrogen is high, then the person will not be in depression.

Chemotherapy – A Cure For Cancer Through Chemicals

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Chemotherapy is the process of curing cancer with the use of chemo drugs or chemical drugs. Cancer is the medical term for Greek term ‘carcinoma’. Cancer is a disease in which cells of the patients body grows uncontrollably and might cause the death of patient due organ failure, blood block etc. Chemotherapy is treatment by chemicals of those cells which are responsible for causing cancer in human body and these cells are also known as carcinogenic cells. Cancer chemotherapy began in 1940 with the use of nitrogen mustard. Chemo drugs interfere with the cell division of those cells which are dividing uncontrollably. The oldest known cancer and its treatment were discovered in Egypt and the date was approximately 1600B.C. German bacteriologist from Frankfurt – Paul Ehrlich was awarded a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1908.For some of his pioneering works he was also considered s the father of modern immunology and chemotherapy.

Cancer is a disease in which normal cells transformed through uncontrolled cell division and growth. Then by the process of metastasis these malignant cells spread all over the body. Cancer is more likely caused through genetic disorder or through environmental toxins. It has been concluded that the chemo drugs works on the fast dividing cells by arresting the cells in mitotic stage of cell cycle. Chemo drugs have a better impact on the young tumors because after some times the cell looses their ability to differentiate. In such cases the radiation therapy or surgery is better option. Some drugs may cause apoptosis to the malignant cells which means a programmed death of the cell.

The chemo drugs are also known as antineoplastics. Chemo help is required in the early stage of the disease because after sometime it becomes incurable. Depending on the type of cancer and how advance it is chemo drugs can cure, control, and ease cancer symptoms. Several types of chemo drugs are employed to treat cancer, and they are: Alkylating agents, Anti-metabolites, Plant alkaloids and terpenoids, Podophyllotoxin, Taxanes, Topoisomerase inhibitors, Antitumour antibiotics (L01D), Monoclonal antibodies.

Most of the chemo drugs are given intravenously although a number of drugs delivered orally in some cases, drugs are injected through intramuscular injection or subcutaneous injection etc. Sometimes combination of chemotherapy is administered oral and injection both. Depending on the patient, the cancer, the stage of cancer etc the chemotherapy may be given either inpatient or an outpatient basis.

There are some side effects also which occurs during the chemotherapy, there are long term and short term side effects of chemotherapy depending on the period, dosage etc. The general side effects of chemotherapy are Anaemia, Appetite changes, Fatigue, Hair loss, Bleeding problems, Diarrhoea etc.
