One of the things that many women have to face when they have breast cancer is having a mastectomy, and some turn to breast augmentation after this type of surgery. Though treating the cancer is always the main concern, losing one or both breasts because of the treatment can have a debilitating effect on some women, and restoration surgery can help them feel better mentally and emotionally. This in turn can help with how their bodies deal with things physically as well. It’s a very personal decision, and you need to take a lot of things into consideration.

Breast augmentation after a mastectomy involves a lot more questions and issues than having the operation simply for cosmetic enhancement of healthy bosoms. First of all, if you have undergone a mastectomy, one of your first concerns about having reconstructive surgery is how it will affect any future diagnoses. Will any inserts affect imaging devices that are looking for signs of cancer? Will enhancement affect any future treatments that might be needed? Most often, reconstruction procedure isn’t done while there is still need for treatment of the cancer, but there is always a risk of the cancer returning even if treatment has been successful in eradicating all signs of it. The decision to have reconstructive surgery is therefore a decision that needs to be made only after serious discussion with your doctor.

If the treatment has involved the complete removal of one or both breasts, then augmentation basically has to be reconstructive, usually working under the chest muscle. This is a more involved and difficult procedure than just putting an implant in normally. The implant that is usually used for reconstruction is one filled with a saline solution, although sometimes they are filled with silicone. Often, when there has been complete removal, the reconstruction is done in stages. First, a balloon-like apparatus is inserted under the skin and muscle of the chest, and inflated slowly over time to stretch the skin. When the skin has been stretched enough, an implant will be inserted. The type of procedure that you have will depend on your particular situation.

Of course breast cancer is an irrepressible growth and development of breast cells. If you will understand this problem in detail then you will be able to gather information on how any sort of cancer actually develops. The Cancer takes place because of the abnormal alterations and mutations into the genes which is further responsible for influencing the growth of the breast cells and also keeping them all in a healthy state. The genes are present inside every nucleus of every cell which works like the “control room” for every cell. Generally our body cells substitute them selves at their own through the procedure of cell growth and development where in old cells die and new cells takes their place. It is also true that with the passage of time any type of mutations or abnormality can activate specific genes and also inactivate other genes in the cells. These altered cells now get the power to go on dividing the cells with out any order or control which produces more number of cells such as creating a tumor.

A breast tumor can be benignant that is not at all risky for life or really malignant that is having potential in proving dangerous for heath. The benignant tumors are not at all taken as cancerous because these cells are generally like normal cells in looks; they actually develop steadily and slowly and moreover, never invade close by tissues and also do not spread over the other bodily organs. On the other hand the malignant tumors are nothing but cancerous. If they are not checked regularly then they can spread a long way other than just real tumor place. This signifies it can spread on to other bodily areas also.

This way it becomes clear that the word “breast cancer” signifies to the malignant tumor which occurs due to over growth of cells in the breast. Generally the breast cancer can begin in two ways, either inside the lobule cells which are actually the glands for producing milk or inside the ducts which are the paths for draining milk through the lobules towards the nipple. It is very uncommon that breast cancer develops inside the stromal tissues that involve the fibrous and fatty connective breast tissues. With the time, the caner cells can overcome the close by breast cells and tissues which are healthy and can create their path inside the underarm lymph nodes which are the little organs which are responsible for filtering the foreign substances present inside the human body. About 5-10% of the breast cancers occur due to mutations that are inherited from one’s parents. Over 90% of the cases occur because of genetic mutations due to some aging procedure.

Breast cancer is suspected when a lump or thickening in a breast is felt during breast self-examination. Other symptoms that may lead to suspicion are lump in the armpit area, scaly skin on the breast, nipple discharges other than milk, nipple retraction or nipple inversion, reddening of breast skin, change in size or shape of a matured breast, nipple itching and breast pain. These symptoms do not always mean that there is cancer; but once any of these is detected, the person is strongly recommended to visit a doctor for examination. A doctor will confirm the presence of a lump by doing palpation. Palpation means feeling the entire breast. Imaging studies like ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may also be done. Mammography may even be recommended. Once confirmed, a doctor’s only option is to recommend for the patient to undergo a breast biopsy.

In surgical biopsy, sample tissues are taken after an incision is made on the skin. Sometimes, if the lump is small, the entire lump may be removed. Non-surgical procedures include fine needle aspiration biopsy, core needle biopsy and vacuum-assisted breast biopsy. Both fine needle aspiration biopsy and core needle biopsy employ the use of a needle to collect sample tissues. The needle used in core needle biopsy is however thicker and hallow. More samples are also extracted through this procedure. Vacuum-assisted breast biopsy uses a special instrument to remove samples. A probe is inserted and a vacuum is used to suck out breast tissues from where samples are taken. Insertion of probe is guided by imaging machines like ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging or MRI.

A Breast biopsy can be done in a clinic or a hospital, depending on the size of the growth to be examined. For surgical procedures, local anesthesia or general anesthesia may be used. For non-surgical procedures, anesthesia may not be needed. At the most, local anesthesia will be used. These procedures can be done by doctors fast. Risk of complications such as infection is minimal. With or without anesthesia, patients may feel little to no pain at all. Pain or discomfort can be lessened by over-the-counter pain relievers. Biopsy results range from normal to abnormal. A normal result would mean that there is no sign of cancer present. An abnormal result on the other hand would mean that the lump is either benign or malignant. Benign growths include non-cancerous disorders like cyst, papilloma, fat necrosis and adenofibroma. Malignant or cancerous growths include infiltrating ductal carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, colloid carcinoma, lobular carcinoma, sarcoma, medullary or circumscribed carcinoma and inflammatory carcinoma.

Breast cancer is probably one of the most emotional types of cancers for women, but it is not only women that can get breast cancer. Of course, most cases of breast cancer are from female patients. No matter what age you are, you can still get breast cancer. Although it is more common in women that are 40 years of age or older, you should start doing breast exams as soon as you can. This is because you can actually help to prevent breast cancer with early detection. If you are not able to prevent it, you are going to be able to have a better chance of getting rid of it the sooner that you do find it.

They recommended doing breast cancer exams every 3 years. This is after you reach your late 20′s and 30′s. However, keep in mind that breast cancer is something that you are able to detect yourself. It is always good to keep a close watch on your breasts. Every few days, you should feel them while you are in the shower to check for lumps. These lumps could be signs of breast cancer. The lumps will usually be hard and noticeable.

When it comes to doing breast self-examination, there are a few times of the month that are the best time to check for breast cancer. This is a good way to do early breast screening detection to help you prevent getting it. Although some people still think that you should check for breast cancer every few days, you are really only suppose to check it about once a month. However, do keep in mind that doing it more than once a month is not bad.

The best time a month to check for breast cancer is the day after your period. This is the best time to perform a self-examination, because your breasts are likely to be less tender and sore. If you are a person that has irregular periods, then you can check your beast any time of the month. You will still get the same effect. Just remember, try to do a self-examination when your breasts are not sore. This way you can do a much better job examining without worrying about your breasts being too sore to touch.

If you do not think that self-examinations are the best way to go, for early detection of breast cancer you can always go in and have mammograms. This is a breast X-ray that is able to see the smallest breast tumors. Now the question is, when and how often should you go in for a mammogram? The truth is, it is really going to depend on your age. Not only that, but it is going to have a lot to do with your family history as well. If breast cancer is something that runs in your family, then you are going to want to do mammograms more often than other people. Breast cancer is something that kind of runs in families. Although it is unknown why it does this, it does not change the fact that it does run in family trees.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer found among women. It occurs at all ages but is most common between the ages of 45 and 49.One of the main reasons why most breast cancer patients are not surviving this treatment is because they do not know that they have this disease in the first place. Because of this, they were not able to undergo treatments in order to stop the growth of cancer early on. With this the following are the signs of breast cancer you should be aware of.

The most common signs of breast cancer are the lumps that you can feel when you have been doing some self examinations on your breasts. The doctors will be able to feel this once your doctor does a physical exam on you during your physical exam. Once they have felt a lump, they will have it tested in order to find out if it is a malignant or benign tumor. Just the same, doctors will be able to check out on mass growth on the breasts through routine mammograms. In this way, they would see whether there are some malignant formations that cannot be felt by the hand.

Other signs that you should watch out for on your breast is the size and the shape. With this, you can try to suspect that the immediate change might be caused by cancer cells growing in your breasts. Aside from this, the breasts’ skin should also be checked for any markings or dimpling. Aside from just the breasts itself, the nipples should also be checked. One of the common signs on the nipples is its inversion. Once you noticed that there is this change on your nipples, you should start consulting your physician immediately. Aside from this you should also take note of nipple discharge.

Other symptoms may also include the Paget’s disease. The symptoms of this disease are eczema type symptoms such as redness, itching and burning and even some tingling feeling. This may be taken for granted as the symptoms may just be regular eczema. However, there are cases that women who have this disease also have breast lumps. Since breast cancer is a type of cancer, you can also consider other cancer symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, swollen lymph nodes and even joint pains as something connected to this disease.

Once one or more of these symptoms were detected, it is very important for people to have these checked immediately in order to do proper work up. Keep in mind that these symptoms may not only be indicative of cancer but also of other diseases. And the breast-specific symptoms may also be an indication of benign diseases of the breasts. Through early check up and detection, you will be able to undergo treatments that will prevent the growth of the lump or the spread of the cancer cells and thus preventing it to grow to its next stage. This will help the women to survive this breast disease.

There are a few basic breast cancer treatment options. Before selecting a treatment for this condition, it is important for you to understand the ultimate goals behind them. The first goal, naturally, is to eliminate all traces of breast cancer in the body. The second is to ensure that the effective steps have been taken to reduce the possibility of the cancer returning. The determination of the treatment normally depends on the extent of the cancer, as well as the areas of the body that are affected.

Surgery is a common treatment option when it comes to breast cancer. Medical professionals will examine the type of cancer that is being experienced, as well as the progression of the disease before suggesting surgery. If a person is suffering from a growth in the breast area that is cancerous, they may need to participate in a surgery that works to save the breast. This type of breast cancer surgery results in the lump, growth, or ‘cancer’ to be extracted from the breast while the breast is kept in place.

Many individuals who experience breast cancer may have a large amount of cancerous cells in the breast itself. These cancerous cells may be so immense that they are starting to spread to other areas in the body. Many professionals who deal with this type of breast cancer will suggest a ‘mastectomy’. This is a surgery that requires the entire breast to be removed from the body. This is normally performed in the advanced stages of breast cancer. However, if it is deemed as an appropriate procedure in the early stages of breast cancer, it will be done then too.

Many medical professionals have found that by providing a person who is infected with breast cancer various types of hormones, the cancer is stopped. This is a very productive treatment when it comes to preventing this type of cancer. As a matter of fact, if an individual has breast cancer surgery, most doctors will implement the treatment of hormone therapy in order to ensure that the cancer does not return. If you suffer from this type of cancer, it is important to discuss this option with your physician.

Radiation is also a common treatment for breast cancer patients. This is an important procedure for sufferers because of the fact that this treatment can effectively eliminate the amount of cells that are cancerous in the body. Many times, this procedure is most commonly used after an individual has had breast cancer surgery. This treatment will work to destroy any lingering breast cancer cells after surgery has been concluded.

Most people believe that breast cancer only affects women; this is because most men are not aware that they are also at risk of getting the disease. You may find it interesting to learn that men have a minute amount of non-functioning breast tissue. Even though this minute amount of breast tissue cannot generate milk, or serve any purpose, it is susceptible to a mutation of the cells that can lead to male breast cancer.

These tissues are located in the area specifically behind the nipple that is present on the chest. Similar to breast cancer in women, male breast cancer occurs due to the unrestrained increase in the cells of the breast tissue. There are tubular structures or ducts in the breast tissue of both girls as well as boys. During the time of puberty, ovaries present in the girl generate female hormones called estrogen. This causes the ducts to expand and the milk glands are developed at the ends of these ducts. The quantity of fat as well as connective tissue inside the breast also enlarges as the girl attains puberty.

But at the same time, male hormones like testosterone, which are produced by the testes, prevent the development of the breast tissue as well as the growth of lobules. This results in under developed ducts in the male breast of which only contain a minute quantity of fat along with connective tissues. Male breast cancer is found most often in men between the ages of 55 and 70. However the disease can also appear in men at any age.

Men are far less in danger of developing breast cancer and in fact only approximately one in every thousand men ever do. The reason why men may develop male breast cancer is greatly in question. But researchers show that it can be genetic or inherited aspects as well as an environmental issues that are likely to play a part in its growth.

Studies have shown that people who become exposed to ionizing waves are at greater. People who have in the past undergone therapy using radiation in order to take care of malignancies found in the chest area like Hodgkin’s lymphoma are at a risk for the growth of breast cancer. Lymphoma is a kind of cancer that involves the cells related to the immune system which are called lymphocytes.

Breast cancer also affects men and it is important that men be equipped with the right information about this disease. Having access to information can help men prevent, detect and seek treatment for male breast cancer, which is as deadly as breast cancer in women. If any breast cancer symptoms are detected, then call the doctor and make an appointment as soon as possible.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in women if the relatively less aggressive skin cancer is excluded from counting. Breast cancer accounts for about 32 percent of all cancer diagnosed in women. Although there is no known cure for breast cancer, if it is caught early, it can be treated. The treatments that a patient can undergo are designed to chase the tumor into remission. Therefore, with this hope in mind, it is important that a malignant tumor be caught in its early stage.

There are numerous types of cancer. Cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs is carcinoma. Leukemia is a form of cancer that begins in blood forming tissue such as bone marrow and will cause a large number of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood stream. Multiple myeloma and lymphoma cancers start in the cells of the immune system. Cancer that begins in the bone, cartilage, fat, blood vessels, or muscle is sarcoma. Common symptoms of breast cancer include a change in how the breast or nipple feels and a change in how the breast or nipple looks.

In addition to this, changes in the shape and appearance of the breast is also suspicious to breast cancer. Before the arrival of X-ray of the breast (mammography) breast cancer is mostly discovered as not showing the evidence of the disease before the symptom comes to existence, which means that the X-ray helps a lot to detect this deadly disease earlier. Changes in how the nipple or breast looks may be the nipple turning inward into the breast. Another change could be a different shape or size of breast. Still other changes that might occur in the breast, nipple, or areola may be red, scaly or swollen skin.

Still, another sign that there could be breast cancer is a nipple discharge. The nipple may discharge a fluid if there is breast cancer. In early stages breast cancer usually does not cause pain. If a woman is having pain or other symptoms that do not go away she should see her health care provider. It is likely the symptoms are not due to breast cancer. Other health problems may also cause these symptoms. If a woman does have these symptoms she should tell her doctor. Any problems that might exist can be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible.

What kind of a question is that? Well, are you honest enough to admit that you have thought about it? Honest enough to admit that in the scheme of things you may even have thought how unfair it was that you got breast cancer? I blame God for a lot of things in my life, and I praise him for many more, but I never blamed him for breast cancer. Honestly. I have been a little angry at God though, like Jonah in the Old Testament, but then I remember that Jonah also ended up in the belly of a whale and I think it may be a better idea to get over it. My anger has been more like a sense of injustice, which includes more than just breast cancer. I get to feeling like I shouldn’t have to bear such adversity. So there is my real sin; who am I to think that I should be above trials? In fact, my bible tells me that God disciplines those who are his true children. So I guess my trials and tribulations are warranted.

Too much preaching you might think. Well, I have never hid my faith from anyone. I don’t share it as often as I should, but neither do I deny it. In my anatomy class last semester, a young woman shared how her uncle was in and out of the hospital with cancer and every time he was in the hospital he found God, but quickly lost him when he felt better. I don’t want to ever be like that. I know that God heard me when I cried out to him after being diagnosed with cancer, and I know he saw me through it.

I don’t believe God gave me cancer, but he allowed it to come into my life. So even though I have my moments when I feel it may be unfair, I have many more when I am grateful that he gave me the opportunity to strengthen my faith.
